Course overview
Participants will be able to name pioneers and their work to promote the human/animal bond, will be able to describe the difference between the human/animal bond, animal assisted therapy, animal assisted activities that make up animal assisted interventions, and how they are applied in a practice setting, will be able to describe the importance of animal welfare and the five freedoms of animals, will be able to state training opportunities, the need for clinical supervision and preparation needed for volunteering in practice settings, such as health care, behavioral health care and schools, will be able to describe the American Counselor Association competencies for appropriately using animals in a practice setting, will be able to describe ethical practices for using animals in a clinical setting, and will be able to name the basics of program design including: safety, policies, procedures, forms and disclosures.
