Course overview

On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States (NCADV, 2020). Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) extends beyond physical abuse to psychological abuse, verbal abuse, and many other forms. And as mental health professionals, supporting survivors of IPV can be a challenge. How do we identify if our clients are experiencing IPV? What do we say? What should we not say? How can we best support survivors when they want to exit the relationship? How do we help survivors heal from their trauma? In this webinar, Katelyn Baxter-Musser, LCSW, will present the foundational knowledge necessary for mental health professionals working with survivors of IPV. This presentation will identify the various types of abuse our clients may have experienced, discuss screening and assessment tools you can incorporate into your clinical work, review safety planning, and identify appropriate clinical interventions. By the end of this training, you'll be equipped to provide compassionate & effective care to survivors of IPV.
