Course overview

This presentation will enhance healthcare worker's awareness of potential adverse drug effects associated with over-the-counter (OTC) agents. A common misconception among our patients is that OTC drugs are safer than prescription drugs, which is untrue. We will discuss the benefits of OTC agents and the potential harm patients can suffer from toxic doses. Patients expect healthcare professionals to quickly decipher if this OTC medication has a risk for serious harm. After this lecture, attendees will have the foundational knowledge to make these assessments and find appropriate resources to assist with managing patients at risk for potentially toxic effects from OTC agents.
