Laws and Rules for Respiratory Therapy in Louisiana

After completion of this course, respiratory therapists should be able to:

• Understand and apply the provisions of the Respiratory Therapy Practice Act (law) of the state of Louisiana
• Understand and apply the Board’s rules pertaining to the practice of respiratory therapy in the state of Louisiana
• Understand the requirements and responsibilities involved with collaborating with physicians and other practitioners regarding the treatment of patients.
• Understand and apply the basic ethical guidelines underpinning the practice of respiratory therapy in the state of Louisiana
• Understand the procedures the Board follows upon receiving a complaint about a respiratory therapist
• Understand the investigation and adjudication processes if a complaint leads to a formal investigation
• Know where to go and what to do in the case of an impaired professional whether self or other.
