Business Ethics - This program provides the definition of ethics and its key values, explains potential conflicts of interest, sets forth desirable ethical business practices, highlights the importance of honest communication and the duty to report, and explains practices that must be avoided. Medical Director Contracts in a Nursing Facility - This program provides information on what should be contained in a Medical Director's contract for services and why. It explains the Anti-Kickback Statute, Safe Harbors, and provisions of the Stark Law. Discussion includes key content for a medical director contract, and the necessity and format of medical director service and activity logs. A case study is reviewed that applies the covered information. Red Flags of Fraud - The learner is challenged to be on the alert for red flag issues to avoid being involved in Medicare fraud committed by outside contractors. Content of slides and narration cover what these issues include, the penalty for failure to detect fraud, suspicious signs that can indicate fraudulent activity, the proper procedure for reporting fraud and violations, and how to handle external communications. Office of Inspector General Exclusion List discusses the Office of the Inspector General focus in nursing home oversight, explains the OIG exclusions and the impact to the healthcare facility if excluded individuals are employed, and applies the employer's responsibilities related to OIG exclusion monitoring in his or her work practices. HIPAA Security Rule Security Incident Procedures discusses the background of the Security Rule, what to include in policies and procedures to address security incidents, security incident procedures, how to form an incident response team, the importance of audit log review, how to neutralize a threat and mitigate the harmful effects of a security incident, data backup strategies, how to document a security incident, and breach of security reporting obligations.
