Evidence and Practical Strategies for Effective Supervision

Course overview

Interprofessional healthcare professionals are often required to supervise staff, including interprofessional team members, assistants, interns, and aides. However, supervision may not have been an extensive part of their degree training, and may present with unanticipated challenges. This course offers evidence-based strategies from recent research, as well as practical and effective tips for success throughout the supervision process, that will optimally contribute to the success of the supervisor and supervisee. Practitioners will learn strategies to mentor their supervisees, including resources for coaching, checklists of areas that are significant for the supervisor and supervisee to best work and collaborate together, and evidence of barriers to anticipate and overcome along the way. This course will be helpful for participants in multiple settings, including primary care, acute care, skilled nursing facilities, home health, outpatient care, universities, and schools. It is also applicable to nurses, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, speech language pathologists, respiratory therapists, athletic trainers, and social workers.
