COURSE GOALS

Upon completion of this course, the Therapist will:

1. Be able to IDENTIFY patients at risk for development of acute first patellar dislocation based on disease epidemiology and mechanisms of injury.

2. Be able to ANALYZE and INTERPRET the stages of clinical progression and management objectives for rehabilitation of patellar dislocation in context to return to sports.

3. CLINICAL APPLICATION: be able to identify clinically relevant ANATOMY and CLINICAL BIOMECHANICS associated with Patellar Dislocation.


COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Review the Epidemiology and associated injury pattern of first patellar dislocations.

2. Understand the different mechanisms of injury associated with patellar dislocations.

3. Analyze and understand the general approach to management of first patellar dislocations.

4. Assess and interpret the signs of appropriate progression of healing through the 5 different stages discussed in this article, i.e. healing progression from acute injury to return to sports.

5. Learn how to apply different types of exercises and exercise modifications in rehabilitation programs of first patellar dislocation.

6. CLINICAL APPLICATION: Review critical Knee Anatomy.

7. CLINICAL APPLICATION: Learn Clinical Biomechanics of Patellar Dislocation including the concept of Dynamic Valgus and tests used in evaluation.
