Course overview

In the technology-boosted post COVID-19 world, individuals, families, and school districts are easily influenced to purchase AAC products that do not necessarily fit the needs of the individual. AAC is abandoned 30% - 50% of the time when the device does not meet the need of the user. This course examines the basics of AAC assessment and the premise for matching AAC tools, language, physical accessibility needs and device types to avoid improper and/or ineffective placement of AAC. Participants will learn positive approaches to AAC assessment and coordination with all stakeholders to produce the best long-term outcomes for consumers. The participants will be introduced to hands-on tools for assessment and will leave with resources that are available for computers, tablets, and in consumable form that can be immediately applied in their setting.
