On October 5th and 6th, Direction Home of Eastern Ohio (DHEO), in conjunction with local partners, is hosting the Turning IDEA into Action Conference: An Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access Summit. The conference will be held at Stambaugh Auditorium in downtown Youngstown. The conference provides a unique opportunity for social workers and counselors to learn how to incorporate IDEA principles into their work environments and interactions with clients. The conference will feature dynamic keynote speaker James A. White Sr, a Master Training Management Consultant and Executive coach with over 35 years of corporate, education, government training and development experience. Mr. White has over a million hits on his TedTalk "A Little Problem I had While Trying to Rent a House." He will explore Intersectionality and our role in creating a more equitable and inclusive service workplace and community. In addition, we will host 6 additional local speakers who will present on various aspects of IDEA. Also included on day one will be a Disability Panel who will discuss issues unique to the disabled community centering around access and multiple marginalizations experienced by people with disabilities. Day two will include a 3 hour work shop entitled "Piecing Together the Puzzle of DEI: The Importance of Zooming Out before Zooming In" the workshop will address the importance of maintaining a holistic approach to organizational DEI and how to engage in strategies to make the process more approachable and impactful for clients.
