Course overview
This course covers the basic skills necessary to safely begin instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) techniques. Following a brief introduction to history, histology, and research, one will develop a foundation of IASTM, learning basic concepts and principles. An emphasis on proper instrument use for treatment of the lower quarter, including hip, knee, lower leg, ankle, and foot, will be shown. The course will also feature a practical integration, including treatment of surgical scar tissue. The target audience includes athletic trainers (ATs), physical therapists (PTs), occupational therapists (OTs), and personal trainers.
