Advancing School-Based Therapy (DaCosta)

Course overview

It is estimated that 15% of all public-school children in 2021 receive special education services. Many of them receive school based physical and occupational therapy services. The goal of therapy in the school setting is to promote increased student participation in all areas of the school environment. As therapists, we know it is imperative to provide effective, hands-on therapy services in the school setting to maximize a child's outcome, but we may be limited by time, space, and resources. This live, hands-on, interactive course will provide an in-depth look at effective school-based therapy services. This course will allow participants to learn how to maximize space and time, provide effective co-treatments, develop successful interventions to allow students to achieve their goals and maximize their functional potential within the school environment. Immediately after taking this course, therapists will feel more confident and comfortable writing practical IEP's, functional goals, and working with a variety of ages and diagnoses in the school setting.
