Course overview

This training is designed to provide supplemental education for nurse practitioners on deprescribing to address polypharmacy in the older adult population and to provide nurse practitioners with the skills to successfully deprescribe medications. The training includes prerecorded training modules and utilizes simulation. The training will occur in two phases: a pre-recorded presentation and a simulation exercise. The pre-recorded content will cover. Polypharmacy and deprescribing overview, Review of tools and resources about deprescribing approaches (i.e., Beers Criteria, Screening Tool to Alert Treatment/Screening Tool of Older Person Prescriptions (START/STOPP), Specific drug class to target for deprescribing, Simulation exercise with a real-life scenario of an older adult with polypharmacy. There will be 3.33 contact hours awarded for completing the deprescribing training.
