Tracking # 20-1090826
Course overview
This course is a recording of a previously hosted live webinar event. Polling and question submission features are not available for this recording. Format and structure may differ from standard MedBridge courses. Maladaptive behaviors are frequently observed and create challenges during treatment interventions, especially when treating older adults with age-related cognitive changes, mental illness, or neurological disorders. Maladaptive behaviors are often categorized as avoidance, aggression, agitation, sexual gestures, or disengagement. The question is: when should they be considered normal and adaptive versus when are they truly abnormal and maladaptive? The content of this course will support practitioners in better recognizing and describing maladaptive behaviors and the function of the behavior. Description of evidence-based practical strategies which are encouraging, empowering, and therapeutic will be reviewed
