Course overview

The causes of ocular dysfunction related to dry eye is often multifactorial and rarely self limiting. Inflammation, infection and degeneration are often variable concerns in the treatment and management of dry eye. Historical treatments have been based solely on the symptomatic presentation of dry eye and not on basic science research. New understandings in the pathophysiology of dry eye have lead to dramatically different treatment options. Diagnostic capabilities and new therapeutic options will serve as a basis to choose the most effective treatment in presenting patients. New strategies and treatment options will be highlighted.
