Advocacy is a professional expectation of nurses and a concept that has been widely recognized in other professions aside from nursing. This presentation will explain the meaning of nursing advocacy, define the current state of the oncology nursing shortage, and promote an understanding of the effects of COVID-19 on the oncology nursing workforce. Additionally, this presentation will describe past and present actions implemented to address the oncology nursing workforce shortage, evaluate outcomes of these advocacy actions, and create a plan to develop future strategies to retain the oncology nursing workforce.
