Emerging Infectious Diseases in Corrections and Beyond

Course overview

This presentation updates participants in the area of emerging infectious diseases. Given the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to remain vigilant of old, new and developing infectious diseases. The effects of these diseases can be unpredictable. For example, the recent bird flu outbreaks have resulted in mass culling of poultry resulting in price hikes of eggs nationwide. Furthermore, participants are updated on the treatment of these diseases, how they are diagnosed, and basic methods of prevention of transmission. Case presentations will also be discussed.
