This course is designed to provide an introductory overview for the need to build cultural competence and understanding of Latinx culture in the context of veterinary medicine. Whether you are a small animal practioner working with Latinx pet owners, or a food animal veterinarian working with Spanish-speaking workers, this course will help you understand the importance of building your cultural knowledge of the Latinx community in order to create trust and provide culturally appropriate veterinary care. This program will discuss the need for Spanish communication courses with an emphasis on cultural understanding at veterinary colleges, the barriers to adequate veterinary care in Latinx communities, the complexity of Latinx culture, the lack of Latinx representation in the veterinary industry and more.
