Pelvic Health for Older Adults: A Skills Course for PT and OT

Course overview

This lecture and hands-on Beginner/Intermediate course is designed to provide physical therapists, and occupational therapists with the most current and in-depth information related to evaluation and treatment interventions for pelvic health as it relates specifically to the aging population. The course materials and clinical protocols are evidence based. The hands-on laboratory sessions will provide a more solid understanding of evaluation and treatment methods and the active participation in these laboratory sessions will help to reinforce concepts and techniques. The exam and clinical case studies will ensure that the learner has demonstrated the ability to safely provide meaningful therapeutic interventions and exercise prescriptions for residents and the aging adult population who are experiencing a variety of conditions known under the umbrella diagnosis of Urinary Incontinence. Environmental concerns and adaptations based on client factors and habits will be addressed. Target Audience: This is an introductory level course designed for Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Assistants, Physical Therapists, and Physical Therapist Assistants that work in Continuum of Care Communities that include Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, Independent Living and Home Health levels of care.
