Dealing with Obvious Respiratory distress is very uncomfortable and potentially life-threatening. Prompt recognition and targeted therapy are key to a successful outcome. While it's obvious that patients are compromised, identifying and treating the exact cause(s) can make the difference between life and death. This session will cover clinically relevant aspects of pulmonary physiology, respiratory distress recognition/triage, and blood gas analysis. Treatment of Respiratory Distress - From the Essentials to the Advanced In this session we will discuss the practical management of patients with respiratory distress. We will review essential, potentially lifesaving techniques such as oxygen therapy, thoracocenteses and dive into mechanical ventilation, an advanced but underused salvage procedure.
