Pediatric Ingestions

Course overview

The Pediatric Ingestion course is designed to equip prehospital care providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and manage pediatric patients with known or suspected poisoning. With ingestion being the primary cause of pediatric poisoning cases, this course emphasizes the rapid assessment and identification of toxic agents, as well as the utilization of available resources for patient care. The course covers both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) interventions, and participants are encouraged to follow their local EMS protocols and scope of practice. By the end of the course, participants will be able to discuss prehospital considerations for pediatric ingestions, access the poison control center appropriately, identify common toxidromes, describe interventions for single-dose agent overdoses, recognize dangerous foreign body ingestions, and stay informed about emerging poisoning threats to the pediatric population.
