Tracking # 20-1108660
Course overview
The International Association for Study of Pain defines pain as: "An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage." It further states that "pain is always subjective, and each individual learns the application of the word through experiences related to injury in early life. For people experiencing pain, their initial response may be to avoid activity and seek rest. However, as will be discussed in this course, exercise is an effective tool to help manage pain. Yet there is no "one size fits all" to exercise prescription. This course, therefore, provides an overview of the different factors that impact exercise for pain management.
