Among these are neurological conditions which can directly involve the cranial nerves which provide sensory and/or motor innervation for the structures within the oral cavity proper, the oropharyngeal area and the face. Course Objectives: 1. Understand the basic pathophysiology of the most common neurological conditions. 2. Review the direct and indirect oral manifestations. 3. List some of the most common medications used to treat each neurological condition and their potential to cause adverse oral effects. 4. Identify the potential for adverse drug interactions between medications used to treat the varied neurological conditions and those which are used as adjuncts for dental treatment. 5. Explain where modifications for dental treatment may be required for these patients. 6.Discuss, where necessary, the involvement of a caretaker to assist in the patients at-home oral hygiene regimen.
