Course overview

The Bariatric Patients course addresses the unique challenges and considerations involved in providing care to bariatric patients in the prehospital setting. With obesity rates on the rise, EMS personnel need to be prepared to respond effectively to incidents involving morbidly obese individuals. This course covers topics such as the challenges posed by obesity, the etiologies of obesity, pharmacokinetics in obese patients, pathophysiological effects and comorbidities of obesity, injury prevention strategies, and special accommodations required to properly manage bariatric patients. By completing this course, participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to address the specific needs of bariatric patients and provide appropriate care in these challenging situations.
