Course overview
Stroke rehabilitation is an evolving science and art form. As practitioners, finding effective and client-centered approaches to care is crucial for improving function, promoting independence, and ultimately, restoring Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) to our clients. With an ever-changing landscape of treatment tools, it is imperative to utilize strategies that will facilitate the best possible outcomes. Szeto et al. (2023) identified that focusing on implementing applications that best mimic the live treatment experience will provide superior outcomes for clients. Additionally, motivation has also been identified as a vital thread between motor and cognitive functions, which for stroke survivors is essential (Verrienti et al., 2023). This course aims to enhance a clinician's approach to stroke rehabilitation interventions for maximal impact in both achieving outcomes and promoting client motivation for restoring functional performance skills. Attendees will be guided through the implementation of current evidence-based best-practice approaches for stroke rehabilitation. Therapists will leave with current resources to use the next day in treatment to help their clients achieve their goals and improve function. Participants will be able to identify tools that will assist in predicting treatment outcomes for their cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients.
