Participants will be able to define addiction and a range of substance related problems, will be able to assess the biopsychosocial, cultural, and spiritual factors related to addiction, will be able to describe substances and their effects on brain processes and physiology, will be able to describe models and theories of addiction, will be able to describe the epidemiology of substance use disorders, will be able to describe the social, political, economic, and cultural contexts of addiction and abuse, will be able to describe the history of alcohol and drug enforcement and addiction treatment policies in the U.S., and will be able to outline prevention strategies.
