Course overview

The wrist includes three joints: the distal radioulnar joint, the radiocarpal joint and the midcarpal joint. The movements at the wrist are flexion and extension, radial and ulnar deviation and pronation and supination (at the distal radioulnar joint). Optimal wrist function requires adequate range of motion. Wrist motion is controlled by the ligaments and the proximal forearm muscles. This course provides an overview of the key anatomical structures of the wrist which enable functional movement, including the bony structures, articulations, ligaments, muscles, nerves and the vascular supply. This course aims to explore the functional anatomy of the wrist.
