Course overview

This course was designed to assist RNs and medical professionals interested in healthcare law as an independent nurse consultant. Independent nurse consultants can work as medical experts for attorneys, insurance companies, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, clinics, and government agencies and can help their clients understand and resolve legal issues. Becoming an independent nurse consultant working in healthcare law is not an easy task. It takes hard work and dedication. The novice nurse consultant must be familiar with the law, nursing, and medicine. Laws are defined as the system of rules for which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties. Healthcare law is the federal, state, and local regulations among providers, payers, and vendors to the healthcare industry and its patients. Nursing is the profession or practice of providing care for the sick. Medicine is the science or practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. That knowledge along with the independent nurse consultant's extensive education, analytical skills, and clinical experience are the necessary talents the nurse will need to perform the task of being an independent nurse consultant working in healthcare law.
