Course overview

Research suggests that up to 38% of the general population has an Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD). Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders are atypical, adaptive patterns of the orofacial mechanism in response to suboptimal cranio and dento-facial development. These disorders can affect individuals across the lifespan and can have negative consequences on overall health. Since they are a multifactorial problem, intervention requires an integrated, multidisciplinary team approach. In this course, rehab professionals will learn the causes of OMDs, how to identify signs and symptoms, consequences of untreated OMDs, and the essential role they play in optimizing their patients' airway health.
