Objective strength assessment is an integral component of the examination and evaluation of patients undergoing rehabilitation. Accurate measurements allow clinicians to develop a plan of care for maximizing strength gains while consistently reassessing over time. Dynamometry, although thought of as a basic skill, is consistently underutilized and often improperly performed leading to unreliable data points for assessing patient progress. It is critical for clinicians to understand the principles of dynamometry including application, stabilization and timing so that it can be utilized throughout the plan of care to inform data-driven decision-making in patient care. The purpose of this program is to provide a better understanding of dynamometry for strength assessment and utilize case examples for application in the upper and lower extremity.
