Course overview

This course is intended to enable the massage therapist to develop his/her understanding of Deep Vein Thrombosis and its implications in massage therapy. This includes recognition of symptoms and risk factors, enabling the massage therapist to rate risk factors, pass judgment as to perceived risk and creation of his/her own protocol for risk assessment, education on allopathic diagnostic/treatment methods, understanding the gravity and possible outcomes of DVT, and gaining the confidence to educate clients. Simply understanding that DVT is a contraindication for massage is a step toward safety, but it is not enough information to handle real life situations. This course effectively equips the massage therapist with the tools to assess a client's level of risk for DVT and guidelines for what to do with that information.
