Course overview

The purpose of this course is to offer a broad overview of the classes of pyschotropic medications commonly used to treat older adults, common side effects for each class, and describe some more serious adverse reactions related to psychotropic medications. At the end of this course students will be able to 1) identify symptoms of severe reactions such as Serotonin Syndrome and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome; 2) recognize the difference in the classes of psychotropic medications; and 3) identify a medications as a psychotropic and why. Suggested Audience: Nurses and clinicians ( LCSW, LMFT, LPC, and Psychologists). If you have any questions regarding this course, please contact hthtech@hometownhealthonline.com. Upon completion of this presentation, you should be able to: Identify symptoms of severe reactions such as Serotonin Syndrome and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. Recognize the difference in the classes of psychotropic medications. Identify a medication as a psychotropic and why.
