Course overview
This Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) identifies key elements of treatment planning and programming for co-occurring substance use (abuse or dependence) and mental disorders (COD) in substance abuse treatment. While the needs and functioning of substance abuse treatment are accentuated, the elements described have relevance for mental health clinicians and agencies that seek to coordinate mental health and substance abuse services for their clients who need both. (The Treatment Improvement Protocols (TIPs) are best practice guidelines for the treatment of substance abuse. CSAT’s Office of Evaluation, Scientific Analysis and Synthesis draws on the experience and knowledge of clinical, research and administrative experts to produce the TIPs).
