Course overview

All individuals have a need to be engaged in meaningful activities. This does not change for individuals who are living with cognitive impairment associated with dementia. Providing meaningful and engaging activities for these older adults offers many benefits. This course discusses how activities can meet older adults' needs and reduce challenging behaviors. It also discusses common activities and guidelines to follow. Without activities for individuals living with cognitive impairment, there may be a decrease in their quality of life and functioning. The goal of this course is to educate general staff in post-acute care settings on providing meaningful activities to people living with cognitive impairment.
