Creating Sensory-motor Smart Environments in OT School Settings: An OT Practitioner's Perspective

Engagement in meaningful occupations occurs at the interplay of the student, the context, and the occupation for school-aged children.  OT practitioners can support meaningful engagement by assessing and addressing occupational performance including sensory-motor aspects as it relates to the school environment and then creating a sensory-motor smart environment that best meets student needs for positive outcomes.In this self-paced course, Vera Gallagher will present her perspective on how OT practitioners may asses and create Sensory-motor smart environments for students, classrooms, and buildings in the school setting. This course is an intermediate level course that will focus on applying foundational knowledge to a case study from the presenter's perspective.Target Audience: Occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, occupational therapy studentsThis occupational therapy continuing education course uses the following instructional methods: visual aides (ie slides), live discussion, discussion board, guided note taking, and learning, and practice opportunities.Presented by: Vera Gallagher, OTD, OTR/L, BCP
