Dementia is an increasing problem globally and can affect adults of all ages. Dementia leads to severe changes within a person's brain that result in the person having difficulty expressing themselves. If these individuals become frustrated, they may display sudden and unexpected personality changes or behaviors. These behaviors can sometimes be considered catastrophic reactions and are one of the most significant challenges for those who care for individuals living with dementia. Caring for people living with dementia requires you to know and understand how to prevent and address these reactions. This course discusses the strategies to help prevent and address catastrophic reactions. The goal of this course is to educate direct care workers on ways to prevent adverse reactions in individuals living with dementia.
