Provides an overview of substance use, abuse, and the addiction process in the United States. Includes awareness of the prevalence of substance abuse problems, prevention strategies, identification and assessment of substance-abusing patients, and treatment considerations.Thoroughly describes 12 types of commonly abused substances, including history, epidemiology, biochemistry, and effects on functioning.
