Course overview

Are you a school-based therapist seeking intervention strategies for ADHD? Over 9.5% of school-aged children receive a formal diagnosis of ADHD. Many more demonstrate undiagnosed characteristics. What many don't realize, however, is the number of co-existing challenges many children with ADHD face and how it impacts every area of life. It is critical that professionals thoroughly understand the nature of the diagnosis and the implications for intervention. This 90-minute, view-on-demand, recorded webinar provides a thoughtful review of cutting-edge research and implications for intervention strategies. The presenter also provides multiple intervention strategies that can be used immediately in practice. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) identify components of ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder and list the neurological implications, (2) list the components of ADHD that make it primarily a deficit in Executive Functioning skills, (3) state the most current research being conducted on effective interventions to assist with attention, impulse control, and emotional regulation, (4) state the impact ADHD has on functional motor skills, social skills, communication, and academics, and (5) identify the connection between ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.15 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, Foundational Knowledge, and targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level OTs, SLPs, teachers, and other professionals working with children and teens. The course instructor, Lori Benson Adams, MEd, is an educational intervention specialist and owner of Breakthrough Learning Solutions. She has over 35 years of experience with students who experience sensory, learning, behavioral, and executive function challenges.
