DEMENTIA (4 CE)

Course overview

The main feature of dementia is the development of multiple cognitive deficits that include memory impairment and at least one other cognitive disturbance which might include difficulties with language (especially naming objects or persons), purposeful actions, object recognition, and executive function (planning, organizing, or abstract reasoning and problem solving, initiating actions, changing perspectives). This course explores three empirically-supported interventions for dementia: behavior therapy, cognitive interventions, and reality orientation. Learning Objectives: * Review a description of dementia, including a definition of the disorder, onset, and prevalence. * Compare behavior therapy, cognitive interventions, and reality orientation to various treatment alternatives. * Review a description of the important steps and techniques in behavior therapy, cognitive interventions, and reality orientation.
