Adaptive seating assistive technology is a sub-unit of the positioning seating and mobility category. Adaptive seating refers to any modification made to a seating device that is intended to improve postural control or sitting posture. Increased postural stability facilitates improved functional skills such as mobility of the arms self-feeding grasping tracking and visual scanning. Adaptive seating can also promote social interaction and participation. This course will walk you through the many forms of adaptive seating and explain how to assess an individual for adaptive seating.
