It can be challenging treating adolescents because of regular growth spurts and their changing physiology; they can appear differently at each assessment! Patellofemoral pain is a common complaint affecting possibly a third of the adolescent population. Patellofemoral pain is not something these patients will 'grow out of'. Research shows that if left untreated patellofemoral pain can linger into adulthood negatively impacting mental health and self-esteem. It may also be a precursor to adult osteoarthritis. This course will provide an overview of patellofemoral pain in adolescents discuss common differential diagnoses and offer treatment options for this dynamic patient demographic.
