Course overview

The human gait cycle is a complex interplay of motor control balance and interaction with the environment. An individuals gait cycle can be as unique as their fingerprint. How we walk and run is likely related to the development of musculoskeletal pain syndromes. Some gait deviations can occur independent of other gait deviations while others occur together. This might cause the rehabilitation professional to wonder if some gait deviations are more clinically important than others when dealing with musculoskeletal pain syndromes and if it is possible to cluster or sub-classify gait deviations in order to improve clinician analysis and patient outcomes. This course the fifth of nine in the Gait Analysis and Training Programme explores potential classifications of gait deviations and injury-type related to those classifications. It also discusses the possibility of prioritising which deviation to address first during treatment design and intervention.
