Skeletal development begins early in the first trimester of pregnancy and continues until individuals are aged around 25 years. The skeleton is most vulnerable to deformity during the first few years of life and many conditions can disrupt the length/tension relationship between muscles and their bony attachments. Disruptions in musculoskeletal development can cause secondary impairments that alter an individual's biomechanical alignment. Any malalignment has the potential to impact or limit movement patterns.
