The built environment is defined as the part of the physical environment that is constructed or modified by human activity. In sports this can include structures such as sports stadiums playing surfaces equipment buildings and transportation systems. Other aspects of the built environment include adequate lighting at a sports event spectator behaviour and accommodation. Furthermore athletes taking part in events outdoors are exposed to ultraviolet light which can have short- and long-term effects on their health and well-being.
