The purpose of this brief course is to promote the appropriate and safe use of psychotropic medications in children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders by emphasizing the best practice principles that underlie medication prescribing. The evidence base supporting the use of psychotropic medication for children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders has increased for the past 15 to 20 years, as has their use. Learning Objectives: 1. Evaluate the current and past evidence on the use of psychotropic medications for children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders 2. Evaluate the implications of practice principles for assessment, treatment and monitoring, and assent and consent for treatment
