Course overview

Working with people with a thoracic-level spinal cord injury requires a great understanding of the potential of their functional capabilities. Due to the limited time afforded in the health care system, it is critical to have a solid understanding of how to utilize their strengths and teach them specific techniques to optimize their therapy time and improve their outcomes. A focus is on techniques to improve functional mobility and how to optimally progress them to be as independent as possible. In this course, J.J. Mowder-Tinney will provide specific skills to increase the success of their movements and illustrate interventions in a variety of different positions that can be performed in any setting. This course involves multiple demonstrations with real patients who have thoracic-level injuries to illustrate interventions that will optimize their function. This course is appropriate for PTs, PTAs, OTs, OTAs, and nurses and can be utilized in any patient setting.
