OBJECTIVES: At the end of the class you will be able to: 1. Apply some laws relating to assisting with medicines and what a nursing assistant can or cannot do. 2. Relate several route procedures and some age related route and form considerations. 3. Describe how medicine indications, contraindications, interactions, side effects, adverse reactions, dosages, proper storage and disposal as well as the components of a complete label and a complete MD order impact on assisting with medicines. 4. Recognize acceptable abbreviations and their meanings. 5. List and apply the 7 "rights of medication administration" (right medicine, patient, time, dose, route, form, and documentation) 6. Summarize the uses, contraindications, side effects and implications of common medication classifications. 7. Apply infection control principles to assisting with medications.
