Course overview

In the United States, it is estimated at least 150,000 children utilize a mobility device and many of them will receive therapy services during their life. Clinicians working with children who have or may need a mobility device should have a basic understanding of the needs and process of obtaining one. This course will review basic concepts of equipment and principles when recommending equipment. The course will provide strategies in determining wheelchair frames and accessories as well as seating components. After completing this course, the clinician will be able to participate in mobility evaluations and recommendations with the involved team. (Kaye, Kang, & LaPlante, 2000)
