Course overview
Joint attention, the ability to share attention and engage with others in a meaningful way, is a foundational skill for social and communication development. For Autistic children, deficits in joint attention can limit progress in areas of play, learning, fine motor development, and overall participation. This 90-minute, view-on-demand, recorded webinar addresses the critical role of joint attention in the development of Autistic preschoolers. It equips clinicians with easy-to-implement, take-home, evidence-based intervention strategies to enhance joint attention skills providing a holistic purview to improve clinical outcomes. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) identify two basic principles of joint attention and its impact on participation, (2) identify two models commonly used to address joint attention in therapeutic practice, and (3) list six practical techniques and activities to promote joint attention in various settings, such as home, school, and the therapy clinic. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.15 CEUs, Introductory level, OT Service Delivery, and targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level pediatric occupational therapy practitioners, SLPs, preschool teachers, and other pediatric professionals. The course instructor, Dr. Aditi Mehra , DHSc, OTR/L, is currently the Director of Fit Learning Labs in the Chicagoland area and continues to practice OT in both schools and private teletherapy services. She is passionate about Interpersonal Education and strives to foster multidisciplinary collaboration among OTs and other allied health professionals.
