Course overview

As we become more aware of our environment, global warming, pollutants and our health we need to consider the chemicals we use to prepare the deceased for viewing. It has been acknowledged that the chemicals we use for embalming are unsafe. They are carcinogens and require special handling to protect the embalmer. At present while serious efforts are being made to find safer chemicals, we also need to realize the dangers of those we are presently using. This course spells out those dangers. The history of man indicates we have always felt a need to preserve and care for our dead. In this course we will briefly look at some of the ways this was done, the chemicals that were used and those we are presently using as well as analyze claims made for some products. We have also been fortunate to have always had a dedicated group of manufacturers that respond to our needs by continually developing new and innovative products to make our work easier so we could present our clients their loved one in the very best light. And we acknowledge what this dedicated group of manufacturers is doing to develop safe embalming chemicals. We will also take a brief look into the future in and attempt to explain what a Green Burial is and why it should be embraced by funeral service
