Course overview
Good nutrition is providing the body with the food it needs to stay healthy, provide energy for activities of daily living, and fight disease and infection. The body uses food you eat as raw material for building and maintaining blood, bones, muscle, and tissue. Foods vary in the nutritional value they provide, making it important for residents to eat a balanced diet. A balanced diet is one that provides food from all the food groups daily. At the conclusion of this educational module, the certified nursing assistant will be able to- 1. Define what good nutrition is. 2. Explain why it is important to eat a balanced diet. 3. Understand the basic nutrients. 4. List the six (6) basic food groups. 5. Discuss the changes that occur as we age that impact nutrition.
